GVD is a GUI front end for gdb (maybe others.)  Perhaps that would keep both 
camps happy?  I don't know that it's any "easier," though. 

Um, if gdb is too hard, do they really know enough to be productive with a 
symbolic debugger in the first place?  Maybe you should just keep a CVS 
branch that has print/cout statements every other line! ;)
