I am aware now that the latest version of ubuntu will not longer allow you to choose the "classic" version for your desktop. I am trying to get used to using the new format for Gnome 3 but I can find more things using the old layout. I suppose I will manage to do things eventually in the new layout, but it would be nice to continue with the classic look. I was quite used to the pull-down menu in the classic version.

Does anyone know of a way to keep using the classic layout? I do not want to upgrade yet from 11.04 because I understand it will not allow using that.
As an aside, I can assure you that linux is the way to go. I installed Ubuntu on my acer aspire one netbook and it runs like a champ with no trouble locating all the drivers and running it in 64 bit mode. It now rocks compared to that Win 7 starter!
In another case I had to try to get a GeForce 8400GS card to work in my friends dual core 3ghz windows xp desktop. We spent a lot of hours before I started to figure that maybe the card might be defective as it would refuse to run. I took it home and put it in my desktop here and found the drivers for it on line. (my friend cannot go on line from his location). After getting the card to run on my computer I put it back in his and after some heavy duty coaxing, got it to run under win xp on his machine. We had gone locally to a place were we could download drivers and downloaded what we both thought would let the card run the first time I was trying to get it to work, but it took putting it in my machine and going on line to finally get it done. Another major reason to dump windows entirely. If I could get all my computer work done in Ubuntu as easily as windows I would probably never use another windows computer in my life. I still have some issues with Ubuntu on file handling as i think windows seems to beat it there and with playing and copying video. A big change came when Ubuntu would run its own version of VLC Player. I figure I am half-way there!
