<small>To all who responded - Thanks very much. I started over from
scratch on a second system, installed the Brother printer as a network
printer, and all went quite smoothly and successfully! Now to get the
original system where I tried to install as a USB printer</small><small>
redone</small><small> - but at least I now know that it's possible!!<br>

<small>Bob, I happily used it as a network printer for probably a
couple years with Windows until, after an update from Microsoft, I lost
access and was never able to get it to work again (Reinstalled, did
everything I could think of, could have been a coincidental printer
failure, I suppose, but I blamed it on the windows support), so I've
since used it as a USB-attached shared printer. Since my switch of as
much of my activity as possible to Ubuntu, I hadn't thought of trying
to use it as a network attached printer. I'll give this a try, though
frankly, downloading drivers and configuring a network printer on linux
seems more intimidating. I guess I have nothing to lose, however.<br>

Is there a reason you can't use the Ethernet connection?
I have used this printer with the network connection and
print, scan and fax all worked from Mandriva using the
Brother drivers.
