The error I expected was an output via --> paul at desk/paul-Lenovo ~ $ sudo hwclock --systohc once entered into the terminal as following: paul at desk/paul-Lenovo ~ $ sudo hwclock --systohc paul at desk/paul-Lenovo ~ $ was the entire output of the command. I guess if you put it that way though it would be like the good working 'apt-key list' command on a 3.13 machine vs. 3.2 <--why did I bring that up again don't ask just don't ask. I'm waiting for your help. Thank you. What do you mean it obviously fails? I see no error. <--why? <--every time I go into bios and change the time via biox I get an incorrect time on desktop. I am going to be looking into this; i'm about 7 hours off by the way. I thank you for your time and your help. Yeah, your hwclock is set to UTC and you live in a timezone 7 hours off from UTC. That's to be expected. ☺ - paul g To: tclug-list at mn-linux.org Date: Fri, 2 Jan 2015 23:42:31 -0600 From: kelly.black at penguinpackets.com Subject: Re: [tclug-list] Bios clock and Linux UTC clock refuse to set at the same time. Paul, To set the system clock to the hardware clock hwclock --hctosys Other way around: hwclock --systohc You should be able to check the hardware clock by issuing: hwclock That will give you an idea of how far off the hardware clock is. If it is skewed far enough, you will probably want to go in to the bios on a reboot and update it. If it does not stick past power outages, you might want to replace the cmos battery on the motherboard. Hope that helps.
