You mean Open Firmware, since we're talking about PowerPC not Intel.
Depending on the version of OSX on there, Disk Utility should be able to do a non-destructive resize of the partition even while you're booted on it.
If you find the right instructions for setting up the boot, you should be able to use the standard "hold-option" boot selector on any restart or the boot selector in system prefs. I have only done the process with the BSD family in PPC before so I'm not sure how much it will vary with Linux.
