FYI - A vanilla full Slackware 13.37 install comes with 7 (That's SEVEN) 
different GUI's to choose from.  KDE, XFCE, Fluxbox, Blackbox, 
WindowMaker, FVWM, and Tab window manager.  Gnome is available from 3rd 
parties if one want to that route (although not officially supported).

Just because Slackware doesn't force one upon you (leaving it up to the 
user to decide which one they like to use, if any) doesn't mean it 
doesn't have one.

It also runs lite(well) on old hardware too.  You should check it.
