I wish I could provide help, but instead I'm going to echo your
sentiments and say 89.3 is awesome. I've found some buginess that took
awhile to resolve with VLC's volume adjustment, but I think it has to
do with different settings for ALSA vs. OSS.

Good luck, and perhaps check to see if there's a VLC channel on freenode...
