I've been playing with Mono and the Monodevelop IDE for a couple of weeks, learning C# along the way. I'm not a hard-core programmer, but what I've seen has been sweet. You can use Glade to develop the GUI, then Monodevelop to write the code with GTK#. Mono is supposed to be a .NET clone and killer. It wants to add all of .NET options and add anything that seems better. Given the ability for Mono to be installed correctly, I think you could be able to port your software over many different Linux distributions, as well as a possibility for using it with Windows. Otherwise you have to choose between writing under Gnome, KDE, or X11. Jeff Rasmussen P.S. I don't develop but saw some potential in Mono that got me excited about the future of Linux. Please correct me if I am wrong. -----Original Message----- From: Patrick McCabe [mailto:patrickm at citilink.com] Sent: Friday, July 30, 2004 1:38 PM To: TCLUG Mailing List Subject: [TCLUG] Gui development on Linux I have been using Linux for a few years now, but all my software development has been for Windows (MFC and VB). We finally have a customer who wants to use Linux. What tools/development environments are available for developing GUI apps in Linux? Favorites? What we need to do is not very complicated -- something comparable to a simple VB app on Windows.
