This position is primarily responsible for the continued availability, resilience, and maintainability of all MHI production and staging services, including network availability, data processing, and application performance, by performing the following duties: Essential Responsibilities: • Deployment: Working with our development team to deploy new versions of software and creating an improved workflow for faster deployments • Monitoring: Watching our production systems, knowing what's happening now and what will happen next, and developing plans for every eventuality • Site reliability: Keeping sites available no matter what happens through monitoring, performance tuning, and capacity planning • Automation: Building and adapting tools to solve problems, with an eye toward repeatability, maintainability, testability, and correctness • Network support: Architecting platforms that meet MHI's ideals of simplicity, reliability, and elegance • Security: Working with the Chief Technology Officer to ensure that every aspect of MHI's infrastructure complies with the highest standards for security and legal and regulatory compliance • Performance of other activities as assigned Job Requirements: Education & Experience: • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (or equivalent experience) • 2-4 years of experience administering Linux systems (preferably Debian-based) • 2-4 years of web and/or shell scripting experience (e.g., Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP, Bash) • 2-4 years of database administration experience • 1-2 years of web application development experience • 1-2 years of software development experience • 1-2 years of experience with Amazon Web Services or similar cloud platform Required Knowledge & Skills: • Extensive understanding of scripting languages (Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP) • Extensive knowledge of Nagios or similar monitoring software • Extensive experience in creating scalable web applications and with load balancing, proxy servers, caching technologies, database scaling, etc. • Extensive knowledge of Apache, Tomcat, Nginx, Memcached, and SQL databases • Extensive knowledge of Puppet or similar configuration management technologies • Extensive understanding of SQL databases and data architecture (MySQL and/or MSSQL) • Extensive understanding of the network protocol stack (HTTP, DNS, TCP, IP, etc.) • Extensive knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript • Knowledge of object oriented programming • Knowledge of project build tools and automated build processes • Knowledge of source control (Git, Perforce) and bug tracking systems (JIRA) • Able to master new processes and techniques quickly • Highly organized and methodical • Flexible in order to handle the variety of tasks assigned • Able to work both independently and within small teams • Capable of innovation and also working within set structures • Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work in a small company environment • Good critical thinking skills • Knowledge of office software • Organizational abilities and strong attention to detail • Able to work independently and productively with minimum supervision, work well under pressure, and manage multiple projects To apply, please go to http://www.minnesotatechjobs.com/display-job/48645/Operations_Engineer.html
