From ken at bitsko.slc.ut.us Sun Jun 3 11:52:45 2001 From: ken at bitsko.slc.ut.us (Ken MacLeod) Date: Mon Jan 17 15:05:58 2005 Subject: [TCLUG-JOBS] side work: Perl, C, XML -- all free software Message-ID: Hi all, I'm a leading developer in Perl XML and primary author and editor of the Perlish SAX[1] and DOM draft[2] bindings. I am developing a C-optimized implementation of those bindings called Orchard[3], which will also be portable to Python, Ruby, Tcl, and others. I will be presenting the Orchard XML APIs and the Mostly-C runtime at the Open Source and Perl cons. July 23-27[4]. I've recently had several offers of sponsorship for Orchard to help speed up development and we're looking to add additional developers. Orchard is being developed using Extreme Programming[5] practices and we're particularly looking to do team/pair programming almost exclusively. No hourly rate has been set yet, this position is wide open at the moment. Perl monks of any level, with at least a familiarity with C (no XS experience necessary), should get in touch with me. Email to ken@bitsko.slc.ut.us or call me at +1 952 906 3215. I'm new to the Twin Cities area and my DNS hasn't switched over fully yet, so if you don't get a response to email within a day, please followup with a call. I'm trying to find out about UNIX education around the Twin Cities area, preferably the western metro area, and what schools and classes you all can recommend. Right now I work with VM/ESA and VSE/ESA and I like maintaining and doing the work on the machines, I'm what I like to call the worker bee, I like someone to assign work and I'll get it done, I really don't want to get into the managerial aspect with all the political crap that's involved. I was told about one class here: http://www.cce.umn.edu/pdcs/unix.html but I thought I would ask all the people out in the real world for advice.. -- Regards, Andrew Andrew B. However, SGI just finished their second crop of layoffs on Friday. They're suffering right now and haven't been hiring in Eagan since this Spring when they told all their job applicants that "due to economic conditions" they would stop hiring. Hence, I'm working at Cray instead this summer. Cray and others have been hiring laid-off SGI employees like they're going out of style, so the UNIX job market in the Twin Cities isn't as hot as it should be.
